09/02/07:  September 2nd - Only two racers showed up by 8:20 this morning so racing was canceled.  The season is officially over.

Thanks to all the racers who participated with MARCAR this year.  We appreciate you racing with the club.

We are now in the off season.  Information for next year should start showing up around January.

***************************************************************************************

08/21/07:  August 19th - The final race of the point series.  Some great racing today with the series winners being Steve Rossi in 1/8th, Kevin Czikora in .12 Touring and Rodney Nilles in Electric Touring.

A big thanks to everyone for coming to race with us.  We have one more race this year - hope to see you there.

***************************************************************************************

08/14/07:  August 12th - Good racing on another hot day.  Sal DiFazio makes an appearance and wins in 1/8th scale.  Kevin Czikora takes the .12 Touring main (barely) and Rodney Nilles prevails over his sons for the electric touring win.

Thanks for coming out.  All the entry fees from today's race (as well as those for 8/19 and 9/2) are being donated to Sal and family to help in there battle.  Thanks again.

***************************************************************************************

08/07/07:  Sorry for the delay posting the results for July 22nd - it's been busy.  Good racing again with Steve Rossi showing off his driving skills in two classes.  Todd Sieler takes the electric win in a rental vehicle!.

Thanks for coming out.

***************************************************************************************

07/02/07:  July 1st - another hot, hot day and more good racing.  Thanks to those who came out, raced, baked and had fun.  Apologies to the 1/8th class for the generator problem - we'll try not to let that happen again.

***************************************************************************************

06/27/07:  June 24th - a scorcher of a day and some hot racing as well.  This is the first week of our second point series and everyone was trying hard for maximum points.

A big thanks to those who came to race with us, we hope to see you this weekend on the 1st.

***************************************************************************************

06/11/07:  June 3rd we had a light turnout for racing.  The weather got a liitle sketchy so we only ran two rounds of qualifying before the main events.

A BIG thanks to Mark Klenin and Premier Copier for the real nice trophies for the Spring Point Series.  Mark continues to help out the club and we appreciate it.  When you have a chance, give him a thanks.

***************************************************************************************

05/28/07:  May 20th wrapped up our Spring (First) Point Series.  Congratulations to all the winners.  Thanks to the generosity of Mark Klenin and Premier Copier, we will have trophies instead of the typical cash awards.  We should have them in time to hand out on June 3rd but, if not, we will have them on the 24th.

***************************************************************************************

04/17/07:  We continue to have real nice weather for our races.  Keep your fingers crossed for more.  Once again, good racing.  Ken Souther with a new car laying down the laps in nitro touring with Kevin Czikora and Tim Haugen in tow.  Ronny Brown had his car working well in electric touring while the Nilles clan kept motoring along.  Simon and Daniel showing dad, Rodney, how it's done.  In 1/8th scale, Robert Ronas had a good run and Mike Hinds put in a great drive for second.

***************************************************************************************

04/04/07:  Another great week of racing!  Great competition in the various classes with a good battle between Darren and Joe for quite a while in nitro touring and Mark winning his first (I believe) A Main in 1/8th.  We appreciate everyone racing with us.

***************************************************************************************

03/20/07:  After a slow beginning on the 4th, we had a great turnout on the 18th.  Thanks to all for coming out to enjoy the weather and the racing.

***************************************************************************************

02/09/07:  News from the club meeting.

1)  New Vice President for 2007 is Bryan Cravens.  Contact info for Bryan is posted.  Thanks to Bryan for stepping up to help out.

2)  Our new race location for 2007 will be at OEM Parts.  See the map on our schedule.  Thanks to OEM.

3)  Race fees for 2007 will be lower.  The basic structure is:
Yearly membership fee = $25.00
Racers who live OUTSIDE El Paso county = $10.00.  You do not have to be a member to receive this price.
Racers who live INSIDE El Paso county = $10.00 or $20.00.  To receive the $10.00 price, you must be a member and help with track set up and tear down.  If you are not a member or do not help with track set up and tear down, you will be charged $20.00.

***************************************************************************************

10/01/06:  Well, the final race of the year for MARCAR.  A light turn out on a beautiful day.  A big thank you to all who participated in MARCAR's races this year and a special thank you to those who raced with us consistently - you're why we do what we do.

Racing in 2007 will most likely start in March.  We will start working on a schedule at the beginning of the year so, please check back to stay informed.

Have a great winter and have fun - whatever you will be doing.

***************************************************************************************

09/11/06:  The ROAR Region 10 On Road Fuel Champs - Finally!  The weather wasn't perfect but the racing was great!

We managed to finally get this race run.  We finished the 3 rounds of qualifying before the clouds opened up.  When the rain stopped, we started brooming the water off the track (a big thanks to all those who worked at that).  When the puddles were gone, we applied a light coat of sugar water to replace what had been washed/broomed away and then we waited for it to dry.

When it was finally done, we got the main events started.  The .12 Touring B main was up first.  4 guys would have a 15 minute shootout to try to win and have the opportunity to bump up into the A Main.  Each car had some off-track work to do except one - and he was the one who won the race.  Congratulations to Tim Schaubroeck!

Next up was the .12 Touring A Main.  Sal DiFazio had set a blistering fast TQ pace but, there were 9 other drivers who had in mind a different ending than what Sal planned.  Early in the race, Sal and Steve Rossi opened up a bit of a lead over Rex Joslin, Ken Souther, Jim Hildebrandt and the others.  Sal and Steve maintained their positions for some time as did Rex in third.  Behind Rex, there were several cars in tight battles trying to work their way to the front.  After about 50 laps, Sal's fast pace caught up to him as the left rear tire was gone!  Sal had to make a tire change and Steve cruised by to take the lead.  Rex, Scott Kluender, John Gayanich and Russ Horton also went by before Sal returned to the track.  From there, Steve put it in smart mode and ran a very clean race to the end to become the Region 10 Champ for the .12 Touring class.  Congratulation Steve!  Rex moved in to the 2nd spot, Scott to 3rd, Sal got back to 4th and John Gayanich rounded out the top 5.

The last race of the day was the 1/8th 4wd A Main.  Once again, Sal put in the TQ run and was hoping to make up for the disappointment in the Touring car.  I don't have much detail on this race however, Sal did hold the lead for quite a while.  Steve was always on the same lap as Sal.  On lap 42, Steve took over the lead for a little before relinquishing it back to Sal.  At some time, Sal started having a tuning issue due to a damaged pipe.  The tune would come and go.  During that time, he and Steve traded the lead a few times.  70 laps into the race, Sal's car died at a pit stop and that was all Steve needed to pull away and secure his second Region 10 Championship.  Congratulations to Steve, once again!  Robert Ronas managed to get by Sal while his car was being restarted and hold onto second.  John Gayanich was not far behind Robert but could not quite catch Sal for the third position.  JB Smith ran a nice consistent race and rounded out the top 5.

Due to the weather delay, the last 10 minutes of the 1/8th 4wd A Main were run in ever-increasing darkness.  It was definitely a different experience!

A big thanks and congratulations to all those who attended the race - excellent racing all around.  An even bigger thanks for sticking with us through the rain delay and the darkness.  We hope you had a good time.

***************************************************************************************

08/13/06:  A light turn out but a lot of fun with the rolling start/pit your own mains.  Only two rounds to try to beat the weather.

***************************************************************************************

07/23/06:  A good time was had today.  Nice weather and great racing.  Randy Joslin & John Gayanich put on a show in the .12 Touring A main as they diced it out for 25 minutes, never more than 5 - 6 seconds apart!  Bryan Cravens gets his first 1/8th A main win.

***************************************************************************************

06/11/06:  A light turn out today but a good time still.  Thanks to all who raced today.

***************************************************************************************

06/05/06:  We had another scorcher on Sunday.  The racing was hot as well.  Thanks for coming out - see you on June 11th.

***************************************************************************************

05/31/06:  The race flyer and entry form is posted for the Region 10 On Road Fuel Championships.  Remember, if you sign up early, it accomplishes three things: 1) SAVES YOU MONEY!; 2) makes it easier on us as we can get drivers entered and races set up in advance making the first day run much smoother; and 3) helps us figure out what we need for trophies.

Thanks in advance for signing up early.

***************************************************************************************

05/22/06:  Well, we had our best weather yet.  Keep your fingers crossed for more days like that!  A real good turn out in Nitro Touring and the best race of the year in the B main between Marcus Ratzlaff and Reece Adragna!

See you on June 4th!

***************************************************************************************

05/08/06:  The rain came.  The rain stopped.  Repeat, repeat.  But in the end, we got in 2 rounds of qualifying and all the main events!  Definitely some good racing today and the chicane was a blast!

Thanks to all who came and raced.

Also added a membership list, accessible from the results page.

***************************************************************************************

05/01/06:  Well, our second race of the season was a mixed bag.  A little good weather, a little bad weather.  The A mains were rained out.  The points for those qualified in the A mains are based off your qualifying position.

Keep your fingers crossed for good weather on May 7th!  See you then!

***************************************************************************************

04/10/06:  Now that's what I'm talking about!  Our first official race day was a blast.  Lots of great weather, fast racing and fun!

Thanks to all who came and raced, we hope to see you again on April 30th!

A reminder for Colorado Springs members - to get the discounted entry fee, you must help with track set up and tear down.  We start at 8:00 am, please be on time.

***************************************************************************************

03/28/06:  The first race day at the new location was a mixed bag.  The track itself was quite nice.  The wind, on the other hand, was not.

What was originally planned as a race day turned into a practice day.  That wasn't all bad as it was the first time most had run their nitro equipment since last fall.  The next race is scheduled for April 9th and we'll keep our fingers crossed for less wind!

The track was nice and smooth - and a pretty good size, 196' x 112'.

Thanks to all the racers who did come out and enjoy the blustery day - we hope you had fun.

Thanks also to Bryan Cravens who took a couple of photos of the track (pic1 & pic2).

For the racers who took home the 75 and 61 frequency clips, please return them to us prior to the next race day.

***************************************************************************************

03/08/06:  Please remember, we are a club renting property and we want to continue to have the opportunity to use the property.  So, some general things to keep in mind for 2006:

- Please pick up all your trash.  Better yet, don't let it hit the ground.  We have 3 trash cans around the track, please use them.
- Please act accordingly and keep the profanity to a minimum.  Yes, we are racing and that can sometimes be difficult to eliminate but, please try.
- Please remember there are no alcohol or drugs allowed at our events.  We could lose the race site if this policy is violated.
- Please tie down any EZ-Ups.  If they are not tied/weighted down, you will be asked to take it down.  We can't afford to have people or their property damaged because you didn't feel it necessary to tie your tent down.
- Please remember the new rules regarding INS boxes and 3 chamber pipes for the 1/8th scale cars.  You can read the details in the previous news for 2006.

Other news:

-The FM transmitter we ordered has been on back order and we will not have it for this Sunday.  We should have it by the race on March 26th.  With  the March 12th being a practice day, we shouldn't need too many speakers anyway.
- We should have the porta john on site and ready for the 12th!

Keep your fingers crossed for good weather throughout the year.

As always, if you need more specific information about something, contact us.

***************************************************************************************

02/17/06:  Okay, everything but the actual contract signing is done.  We will be racing at a new location this year.  We have worked out 95% of the details with School District 11 and we will get the official contract signed next week.  The details are below.

1)  The new race location will be at Jenkins Middle School in the northeast part of Colorado Springs.  The parking lot that we will be in is pretty smooth.  There are a few small cracks but they are level (not one side raised up) and won't upset the cars as they race across them.  We are working out a plan with the school district to fill the cracks to help prevent them from spreading.  If you want to see an aerial view of the parking lot, go to here and, in the Search box, enter 6410 austin bluffs pkwy, colorado springs.  Once this is displayed, click the Satellite button and then zoom in.  The parking lot is directly west of the football field.  If you want driving directions to the school, go here and enter the above address as your destination.

2)  The race dates are approved so, you can now check out the race schedule.  We will be submitting a request to host the ROAR Region 10 On Road Fuel Championships.  If that is approved, we will update the schedule to reflect it.

3)  We have an agreement that we can have a porta potty on-site as long as it doesn't turn into a problem.  If it does, the school district will ask us to have it removed.  We will work to find a vendor that is willing to stake it down and lock it and provide the club with a key.  We will count on every racer to do whatever is necessary to ensure this doesn't become a problem.

4)  Because the school is in a residential area (though further away from houses than our previous race site), we will do everything we can to minimize the noise when racing.  The steps we will take to achieve this will include having anyone with a generator pit in the far northeast corner of the parking lot (furthest from the houses) as well as the previously mentioned items.  If we see other opportunities, we will implement them at that time.  We need all racers to cooperate to try to minimize any potential problems.

***************************************************************************************

02/12/06:  We have another work day planned for next Saturday, 02/18/06, @ 10:00 am.  Like the others, this is dependent on the weather so, check here by Thursday night to see if we will have the work day.  We got a lot accomplished this weekend and we should be able to finish everything else next week.  Come on out if you can.

***************************************************************************************

02/11/06:  YES, there is a workday tomorrow, Sunday, February 12th.  If you can make it out, that would be great.  We will meet at Sal's shop about 10:00 am.  It looks like we should have a pretty nice day.  We need to get some interior boards fixed and painted.  We also need to finish the floor replacement by sealing, painting and installing the boards.  If you need directions, give Sal a call.  We'll see you tomorrow!

***************************************************************************************

02/10/06:  We are still working on the details of the potential new race site.  We hope to have everything worked out by the middle of next week.  Part of the details is the confirmation of dates.  As soon as the dates are agreed upon, we will get a new schedule posted.  Until then, know that our tentative first date will be March 12 as a practice day.  So, start working on your car and getting it ready and keep watching for the official schedule to be posted.

***************************************************************************************

02/09/06:  We had planned to work on the trailer and track boards this Saturday, 02/11, however, Mother Nature is not cooperating.  So, the work day is canceled.  There is a chance we will try to get a little work done on Sunday afternoon.  If we do that, we will post an update on the web site on Saturday afternoon or evening.  So, keep an eye on the web site and, as always, if you have a question, give us a call.

***************************************************************************************

02/05/06:  The 2006 club meeting was held on February 3rd.  Thanks to Nigel for hosting the club at his office.  There were several issues discussed this year.

1)  Officers:  For 2006, Nigel Cass will continue as Vice-President, Sal DiFazio will continue as Treasurer and Robert Ronas was elected as President.  Contact information for all can be found here.  A big thanks to Michael Mai for taking the Presidential reins in 2005 and doing a good job with them.

2)  Race Location:  We will most likely be racing at a new location this year.  We have the preliminary approval for the race site and now need to work out the details of the contract and insurance.  Once this is completed, we will post the new location and race dates.  Should we experience any issues at the new race site, we will most likely have the option to return to the OEM site.  OEM has been very nice to MARCAR and we appreciate that very much.  It is VERY difficult to find businesses willing to work with a club such as ours.  The main reason for wanting to try a new place is to avoid noise complaints from residential houses, as OEM was very close to some residences.  Even at the proposed new site, we could run into the same issue so we will do all we can to minimize noise and be a good neighbor.

3)  Noise:  Speaking of noise, as stated above, we want to minimize it as much as possible.  The efforts to do this will include: a) 1/8th scales will be required to run an INS box.  If you do not already have one, go to the LINKS page and try Ace Hobbies, Ashford Hobby or Winner's Circle.;  b) 1/8th scales will need to run a 3 chamber pipe.  Should a racer only have a 2 chamber, the next time they purchase a pipe, it must be a 3 chamber unit.;  c)  MARCAR is working to purchase an FM transmitter to reduce the number of speakers required for the races.  We will post more information on this when we have the details worked out.; d)  Should we run into a noise problem with the 1/10th scale cars, we will examine the need to impose an INS box rule for them as well.

4)  Schedule:  We have preliminary race dates but we need to submit them to ensure there are no conflicts.  This will be done when we are working out the contract, etc.  Once the dates are approved, we will get the schedule posted.  We hope to have this by February 12th.  We will also submit a request to hold the ROAR Region 10 On Road Fuel Championships.  More information on that will be posted at a later time.

5)  Race Fees:  For 2006, all race fees and club dues will be raised by five dollars.  We're racers too and we don't like to raise entry fees but, after taking a closer look at our expenses per race, there really was no alternative.  Based on how the racer turn out is this year, the race fees will be re-examined next year.

6)  Bathroom facilities:  Unfortunately, at the proposed new location, we will not be able to have a porta potty available.  The good news is, there are a few places to drive to less than a mile away.  As MARCAR does not want  to lose the opportunity to race at the site, you MUST travel to one of these locations should you have the need.  Anyone caught not doing so will be un-invited to attend MARCAR events.  The club cannot take the chance of losing a potentially nice race site due to the actions of any individual.  If you need clarification on this, please contact us.

7)  We have a tentative work day planned for Saturday, 2/11/06 at Sal's shop.  We need to ensure the date is okay and will post an update when this is confirmed.  Also, being February in Colorado, this is also dependent on the weather.  The forecast at this time is not looking too rosy (31 degrees) but this could change.  Stay tuned to see if the work day will go on as planned or if we will have to reschedule.

8)  Get your nitro cars built, tuned and ready for some fun.  We're hoping to have a great year.

***************************************************************************************

09/20/2005:  Another year of racing is coming to a close, but not without a bang.  Regionals are almost upon us and, with any luck, it will be a good one.  It has been a steep learning curve as the new club President and I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding.  We all owe a big thank you to Sal for holding things together during this transition, (new President and a new track location - 2 locations in fact).  See ya in a couple of days!

***************************************************************************************

08/22/2005:  Indications are that MARCAR will be holding Region 10 On Road Fuel Championships on September 24th and 25th.  Though our bid is not official, we have worked it out with the ROAR region 10 director.  The website will be updated with the entry form in the next few days, so please keep checking and thank you for your patience.

***************************************************************************************

08/21/2005:  The port-a-potty is definitely a bonus, and the track seems to be coming into its own so, we had a crazy idea!  Let's hold a regional championship race.  The current situation is such, we will contact ROAR to make sure there is no schedule conflict for September 24 & 25.  If all is well, that will be the dates of Region 10 Fuel On Road Champs.  Stay tuned for the specifics, we should know more on 8/22 and the home page will be updated to present the outcome.

***************************************************************************************

07/19/2005:  Great news!  We will be getting a port-a-potty for the next race (no more sneaking around back) and we are in conversations with the powers that be about holding regionals later this summer.  Look for more info to come

***************************************************************************************

06/20/2005:  After a scorching day in the sun, the summer's first season of racing has come to an end with Sal DiFazio and John Gayanich topping the standings.  Congratulations on a great point series!  With that being said, we all get a clean slate and go at it again on July 10th.  Have a great 4th of July weekend and we'll see you in a couple of weeks.

***************************************************************************************

05/24/2005:  The retailers located at our track gave their permission to modify the surface to suit our needs.  Just last week, Sal and Nigel went out there and smoothed out the big jump at the end of the straight.  There is still much that could be done.  We would like to get a number of volunteers to do a track repair day.  Please email any of the officers when you might be available and we will put together the best date.  Have a great Memorial day.

***************************************************************************************

05/04/2005:  We greatly appreciate the retailers located at our current location however, we are in search of a facility that might suit our needs a little better.  We are looking for a place with somewhat level, smooth pavement that has bathrooms and restaurants nearby.  We will also be considering running regionals and possibly other 2 day events where we would like to run on Saturdays and Sundays.  As members, keep an eye out for places you think might work and tell Sal, Nigel or Mike.  It would be great if you have insight on whether the owner would be willing to let us run there.  If you do talk to the owner, be honest.  We do put down sugar water, leave black marks and are loud.  We are still looking at obtaining a permanent site through the city or privately.  Good ideas are always appreciated.

***************************************************************************************

04/29/05:  WOW, its been a rather rough start for us here at MARCAR, mother nature is threatening to take away yet another Sunday of racing from us.  Please check the website for updates, but the current thinking is if it is that  if the weather forecast does not change for the better, we will cancel this weekend.  Also, we will be running again at the OEM facility, so if you wish to race, please report there.  Let's all keep our fingers crossed

***************************************************************************************

04/21/05:  It seems that TEAM had to make a few adjustments to their parking lot due to some thefts so we will no longer be able to race there.  We will hold our first official race of 2005 at the OEM Parts site posted on the index page.  Use the link to get directions.  As this is a new location for us please be patient on Sunday and as always everything is dependent on mother nature.  See ya there!

***************************************************************************************

03/31/05:  The website is finally updated! Results of the march 20th race are posted on the results page.

Thanks for your patience!

***************************************************************************************

03/27/05:  We apologize for not updating the race results from the first race yet.  We are in the middle of transitioning the web update duties so, please bear with us as we work through the issues.

The first race at the new race site went well.  Get the cars ready for race #2!

***************************************************************************************

03/13/05:  As a result of the club meeting on 03/11/05, take note of the following:

- The full race schedule is now posted.  Click here to view it.
- Race fees will remain the same as last year.  A discount is available for those 16 years old and younger.
- EZ-Ups and canopies MUST be weighted down!  If they are not, you will be asked to take it down.
- Electric Touring will run, IF there are enough cars.  Stock or 19T spec motors.
- It will probably take a few races to determine the best size for the track to allow enough parking.  Be patient.

***************************************************************************************

03/05/05:  Well, it looks like MARCAR has a new place to race in 2005 thanks to Team Volkswagen and the hard work of several club members.

Now that a race site has been secured, the club will hold another meeting to discuss the new site, race schedule, race fees, etc.  If you are interested in attending the club meeting, please contact one of the following people.

Michael Mai, michael@marcar.org , 495.9468 or 567.8532
Nigel Cass, nigel@marcar.org , 534.9349 or 599.7445
Sal DiFazio, sal@marcar.org , 578.8467 or 597.5911

***************************************************************************************

The two issues discussed at the club meeting on February 5th were:
1) Club Officers for 2005; and
2) Where will we race in 2005

Let's talk about the race location.  As you may already know, we will not be able to race at the Citadel this year.  The building that was demolished last year was done so to make room for a new, bigger building.  With the construction that is expected at the site and all the associated equipment, there was no practical way for us to race there.  Therefore, the club is searching for another race site.  There are a few promising leads but nothing definite at this time.

As the club is still trying to secure a race site, the beginning of the season may be delayed.

With no secured place to race, the only other topic of discussion was 2005 Club Officers.  For 2005, Michael Mai will be the President, Nigel Cass will be the Vice-President and Sal DiFazio will continue as Treasurer.  You can find contact information for them on the contact page.

Once again, with no secured site, there was no discussion of the race schedule, race fees, classes, etc.  Once a race site is secured, there will most likely be another club meeting to discuss the above issues and more.

Stay tuned for more information.
